Perpetual tasks are my favorite. Not necessarily doing them,, but scheduling them.😂 Whenever my phone dings with a calendar reminder to change my furnace filters or to buy a gift for an upcoming event, my heart sings! I feel so accomplished because those are things I’d typically forget without the reminder 🤗
There are other tasks, however, the daily tasks, that aren’t so fun. Working out, drinking enough water, eating food for fuel instead of fun..the daily grind takes work & can become mundane without the proper perspective.
In the Old Testament reading today, Solomon & his people are finally dedicating the Temple to God! It’s a HUGE affair with lots of sacrifices! At the end of his prayer, fire flashed down from heaven & consumed the sacrifices - the presence of the Lord was so thick that the priests couldn’t even enter the Temple!
Shortly thereafter, the Lord appeared to Solomon and said,
“I have chosen this Temple & set it apart to be holy - a place where my name will be honored forever. I will always watch over it, for it is dear to my heart.”
The word “always” comes from a word that means, “perpetually and whole”.
When I read the verse my heart soared...y’all, this encouragement is for us! Our bodies are now the residing Temple of the Holy Spirit!
Read it again with this perspective in mind...
“I have chosen you as my Temple & set you apart to be holy - a place where my name will be honored forever. I will always watch over you, for you are dear to my heart.” 💕
Our God & Father promises to perpetually, fully & always, watch over us! And why? Because we are dear to His heart 💕🤗
He has chosen us to be holy & set apart for His purposes! When we remember that our bodies are “not our own”, but rather the vehicle for Holy Spirit ministry, the daily grind of seemingly menial tasks suddenly becomes an exciting act of worship!
Father, help us to daily dedicate our lives & bodies to You...whatever is getting in the way of a life of healthy wholeness and holiness, would You remove it? If we are tempted to do, say, eat, think, (or NOT do), Holy Spirit would You counsel us forward to make sacrificial choices that protect your place of residence? Let our lives become set apart & holy so that even people from afar will be drawn to the Difference Maker Who resides inside 🤗
