God's Plan for Protection, Faith Over Logic, Matthew 14:16 Insights
From Hopeless to Miraculous; What Do You Have to Give?

Sometimes seemingly hopeless circumstances are the PERFECT circumstances for Jesus to reveal Himself as our miraculous Provider…and sometimes? We just might have a part to play!

Matthew writes about this scenario in chapter 14 👉🏽 after a LONG day of miraculous healings, the disciples remind Jesus that they are in a remote place & that it’s getting late. There are close to 15,000 people present so they tell Jesus to, “send the crowds to the local villages to buy food for themselves.”

I find it fascinating that these first-hand, eye-witnesses to His miracle working power resort so quickly back to logic! (I confess that I can SO relate!😬)

Jesus’s response, however, kicked that logic to Kingdom come when He simply replied,

“That isn’t necessary - you feed them.”

Mt. 14:16

I can only begin to imagine their replies…

”Wait, what? You want US to feed over 15,000 people? How? With what are we supposed to feed them???”

Y’all, there is SO much to unpack in this passage, but a take away question for today is this:

❓What has God given you in private SO THAT YOU may provide for others in public?

The only way we can show up filled up is to spend time with the One who is our Bread of Life, the One Who longs to spend FaceTime with us morning by morning so He may give us an well-instructed tongue to fill & sustain the weary.

He promises to reveal great & hidden things you do not know, so that you can show up filled up with the Truth of His Word, ready to feed the spiritually hungry people you encounter each day!

🙏🏽 Holy Spirit, lead our spirits to make time in The Word of God a priority, so that our words might match His & become like manna to whomever we speak.🤩

Can you imagine “amazing” Jesus? 👉🏽That’s what a Roman officer did!

He wasn’t even a Jew. He wasn’t raised in the faith. He didn’t know the Torah & yet he probably heard rumors of this carpenter who could

🙌🏽 heal heal lepers,

🙌🏽 make the blind see

🙌🏽 and the deaf hear!

So when the officer pleads with Jesus to heal his servant, & Jesus agrees to come to his home, the man confesses this:

“I’m not worthy to have you in my home.

Just SAY THE WORD FROM WHERE YOU ARE and my servant WILL BE HEALED…”

When Jesus hears this, He is amazed!

Turning to those who are following him, Jesus declares , “I tell you the truth. I haven’t seen faith like this in all of Israel!”

I don’t know what you are facing today that seems impossible, but I am praying that as you read this, you would be encouraged to have FAITH LIKE THIS!

Jesus is the same yesterday today & forever!

He longs to be your Healer

Redeemer

Reconciler

Provider

Shepherd

Rock

Manna for today…

You name it & He is the Source of anything & everything you will ever need.

Just call on His name, confess like the Roman officer that you are not worthy of His grace, but that you desperately need Him to be your Savior!

Invite Him to reside inside & “say the Word” as He leads you as Lord, watching with great expectation how a “faith like this” will move mountains in your life!

I watched a show recently where the main character, Barry, can travel back in time. His mentor exhorts him not to do so because it may create an alternate timeline wrought with consequences.

Barry eventually gives into temptation & travels back to save his mom from a tragic death. He enjoys the gift of her presence, but suddenly begins to lose memories of his former life. He eventually tries to fix the mess he’s made only to discover that he‘s  created two more timelines & a whole lotta mess!

Kinda funny, but that quantum physics stuff popped in my thoughts when I read a letter from Paul to the Galatians. He’s talking about people pleasing & writes,

“Obviously I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal I would not be Christ’s servant.”

It reminded me of a convo I had with one of my sons  about the timeline theory & Christ’s Lordship.

Our Creator God has THEE most perfect timeline planned for our lives, & we can stick with His storyline, or like Barry, please ourselves (or others) by writing our own.

God’s trajectory for our future holds His best laid plans, but sometimes, in a moment of temptation, we step out from under His Lordship & start writing our own.

✨When we make decisions outside of His will & His way, however, history He didn’t intend will happen.✨

There are many decisions I’ve made that I wish I could highlight, click & delete; decisions that carry consequences to today. Unlike Barry, however, I can’t travel back in time to change them.

What I can do, however, is step back under the power, protection & provision of my Savior. I can allow Him the supreme position of Lordship & trust Him to lead The Way forward.

I’ve written it before, but it bears repeating: we are always a slave to something-ultimately to self, sin or Savior; we just gotta choose which master we’ll serve!

Father, pleasing self or others not only leaves us wanting for more, it creates a timeline You didn’t intend. Holy Spirit, guard us from the goal of momentary good things that keep us from God things. We turn our hearts to You this morning & allow You the perfect position of Lordship over our lives! We aim to please You alone!
